ICAM
ICAM is a protein produced in the body to signal cells to stick together; it affects a wide variety of their metabolic processes. ICAM is elevated in a number of diseases, including psoriasis and influenza.A study in Japan found that in children who became infected with influenza virus, a dramatic increase in ICAM was seen in CD14 immune cells. This increase was not seen in children who contracted respiratory syncytial viruses (the common cold). PMID:10716070 (cache) It is not clear if the increase in ICAM is a part of how the influenza virus spreads through the body, or if it is a response of the human organism. It is also unknown if inhibiting ICAM would slow the spread of the virus or reduce its damage. In psoriasis and in vitro experiments, ICAM can be stimulated by interferon. Various flavonoids have been shown to block the production of ICAM in cells exposed to interferon - Taxifolin? being one of the strongest. PMID:12044887 (cache) ICAM can also be stimulated by Substance P, another member of the inflammatory cascade (cytokine storm). A study found that pretreatment with Green Tea catechins can mitigate ICAM production in a rat model. 15331156 (cache).
