Rational antiviral therapy should be based on treatments known to interfere with the viral life cycle, or substances that block the immune over-reaction that damages the body's own tissues. The ideal therapy would be a vaccine that has been proven safe and effective, but that product may be years in the future. Strategies include:

• Neuraminidase Inhibitors
• TNF Inhibitors and other biological response modifiers
• Hemagglutinin Inhibitors
• Antioxidants
• M2 Inhibitors
